I decided to put this in under a press release sort of statement because I want you to notice what the UK government are up to - I asked whether we could participate in their consultation excercise, so if the discussion builds I might transfer this to another heading.

Dear Sir,

I've been studying the Ministry of Justice website and wondering how to make an approach to ask this question.

For a few years, people identifying themselves as Welsh Republicans have been holding discussions on various sites on the internet, some of them rather less enlightening that I'd hope. A few of us are trying to consolidate some of these discussions and rescue the Welsh republican tradition from those who are really ignorant of it. " repwblic.org " is the proposed vehicle to support more useful discussion, although it has had a rather lame start.

Many of our areas of interest are under the rule of the Ministry for Justice : how can we contribute our opinions to your work ?

Yours Faithfully,

David B Lawrence ( " Dai " )

Dear Mr Lawrence

Thank you for your e-mail of 26 September 2007 in which you expressed an interest in the work of the Ministry of Justice.

The Government will begin a process of consultation on the content of a British statement of values, which will set out the ideas and principles that bind us together as a modern and multicultural nation.

We will soon be coming forward with proposals about having a national debate on a British statement of values and the Government hopes that people throughout the country- and from all walks of life- will participate in this debate. So we welcome your views and comments on the Constitutional reform work of the Ministry of Justice.

You can make a general contribution by forwarding your views and comments to me now or I can add your name and contact details to our
consultation table so that you will be contacted when we are conducting consultations that you can take part in.

Yours sincerely

Good question I would hope people would be able to stand up and do the correct thing especialy when your country and people need you most.

I think everyone has it in them to stand up for the rights of others as well as they're country although I just think they need to be reminded sometime of how important these things are.

Glad to hear it, though I am feeling a bit weary right now and cynical - just reading about calls for the public to give their opinions about the Assembly having law making powers. I'm not feeling up to the challenge, and even if I was one person's opinion counts for little - BUT....

....BUT if there ever is a time to try to relaunch Welsh republicanism it must be about now because arguments about constitutional matters should be republicans' bread and butter....

.....AND what happens at the beginning of the Assembly may shape its future permanently : I long to extract Wales from the English legal system and give it a modern inquisitorial legal system such as France has,
so the issue about law-making powers is crucial because if this amounts to no power to reform the legal system ie make it work for ordinary people then the Assembly really is nothing but a glorified county council.

Could the attention of the Yahoo group be drawn here, so that such a discussion is immediately visible to people who Google that subject ?*

Dear Fluffy,

I see Mia every other week or so but I believe that she has flown back to Scandinavia for Christmas with her family. If you send me your message along with your current email via the personal messaging system ( above ) I will forward it to her. Admirable young woman - makes me feel really old !

Did you catch the documentary on Channel 4 Xmas day - http://www.channel4.com/culture/microsites/C/can_you_believe_it/debates/hidden.html - featured Ascherman facing down the IDF - not really the place to discuss but I googled him to take a look at the Jewish human rights organisation " Rabbis for Human Rights "
